When You Cry Out For Justice

“If you have acted honorably and in good faith toward Gideon and his descendants today, then may you find joy in Abimelech, and may he find joy in you. But if you have not acted in good faith, then may fire come out from Abimelech and devour the leading citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo; and may fire come out from the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo and devour Abimelech!” -Judges 9:19-20(NLT)

We all want justice to be carried out against those who have wronged us. We want it, and at times, we crave it especially when our names have dragged through the mud or when someone is trying to trash our reputation. There is nothing wrong in crying out to God for justice. He vindicates us when we are doing the right thing in obeying Him and not striking out in vengeance. When we are living uprightly before Him and walking in His ways, God vindicates us.

Here's the thing to remember about justice though. For justice to be carried out, a judgment must be made, and God's timing in carrying out justice is not just perfect but has an appointed time. As we begin to see things unfold and see all the injustice continuing on, those carrying out injustice and plotting evil are storing up God's wrath upon themselves. God's judgment is swift and immediate, but God is so patient and longsuffering so before He carries out His justice, He gives people plenty of time to change their ways and repent. And that is why it is also essential for us, as believers, to confess and repent of whatever sin is in our life, knowing He is faithful to His promises, and He forgives us when we confess and repent before Him with a spirit of humility and with contrite hearts. "The Lord isn't slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn't want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act," (2 Peter 3:9GW).

Yes, our enemies may be relentless, and they may seem to surround us. However, remember there will be difficulty in waiting for God to carry out His justice, and that's okay because His timing is perfect. When God carries out His justice, it will be noticeable and recognizable. Know God has your back, and He is able to save you from all your troubles.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You are the Lawgiver and the Judge. You are the God of Justice. You are the Lord of All, and therefore, Your greatness far exceeds anything and anyone. I trust You, and because I trust You, I will trust You will carry out justice in Your perfect timing. I give everything over to You, O Lord. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
