“So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.” -1 Samuel 34:4
David had the anointing not Saul. Saul was a tormented man with a great hatred, and intention to destroy and kill David. God’s hand was on David, and David was under His personal care even if David suffered greatly under the hand of Saul. David was the one who prayed for Saul and played his harp to keep him from going crazy. David is the one that blessed Saul. Saul knew it and his jealousy made Saul to go more mad.
David was meant to be king. Nothing Saul could do about that. David had every right to defend himself. David chose not to because God was for him, and he respected the office of the King and in this case Saul. David spoke it out acknowledging Saul was God’s anointed. Even though we know God had removed His anointing from Saul, David still wouldn’t hurt Saul. David could have killed Saul in the cave, but he didn’t. Before men, he had every right, but David was anointed because he refused to sin. God took notice. God knew David’s heart and called David a man after His own heart.
Here’s the truth. We must have the same conviction and character as that of David. The day came as we see in this passage that those who cause destruction will destroy themselves. Be very careful you don’t go after God’s anointed. Who are God’s anointed? Those who strive daily to live a life of righteousness and holiness before a God who IS righteous and holy. The hand of God will never leave those people.
Listen please, when the anointing of God is on a person’s life no man can remove it, cancel it, or stop it. God’s anointed walk in integrity, character, and in godly behavior. Godly people do not strike back. They let God take care of them, their reputation, and character. You can see those kinds of people by what they say and choose not to say, what they do and choose not to do. They make God be absolutely in control in their lives and situations.
Remember Saul's ending today. Did you catch Saul’s death? He tried to kill David many times, and in the end the very weapon that was being used to kill David, Saul died from. His hands were filled with hatred, attempted murder, and destruction of David. He tried to kill David as it was in his hands to do as king. His intention was to kill David, God’s anointed. God wouldn’t allow it.
Instead, Saul killed himself. The weapons forged and formed against God’s anointed always return to its senders. Can I say once more be very careful? My attitude is to walk away. Walking away is taking the high road. Never think it’s a weakness or an admission of guilt. It’s rather the greatest strength a person could achieve. David ran away, and sometimes, we got to do the same. Run away from repaying evil with evil. Try blessing those who curse you by praying God brings forth justice, and be very careful you are NOT the Saul.
In the end the anointed of God became King. David was one of the greatest kings to ever rule this world. Just like God declared it. God always showcases His anointed big time. Do all you can do to be God’s anointed.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You are the Defender of those who serve You and love You with all their heart. May I always strive to do Your will and to walk in Your ways, knowing You will be my Defender as I walk in obedience to You. I trust You, O God, to vindicate me as I seek after You and Your righteousness. Help me to always remember who I am in You and that I don't need to worry because You take care of my enemies. Continue to be my Guard and my Shield. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
