Sometimes God’s Plan is Different Than Ours.

I describe the book of Proverbs as wisdom overflowing.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” -Proverbs 16:9

This passage has always served as a warning to me. Reminding me of two very different things. Do I want things my way or God’s way? We, as people, plan all the time. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a good thing to make plans. The problem is that when you make plans leaving God out of the equation, you get into trouble.

I woke up this morning at 4 a.m., and I was deep in thought. I was trying to figure out what was on my heart. Sometimes we fight so hard when the truth is staring us right in the face, but we want a different outcome. It wasn’t our plan. It wasn’t supposed to work out this way. We were on a course clearly mapped out in our heart how it was going to go down. Then, suddenly "uh oh!" The road takes a different turn. It’s strange to us. It’s uncomfortable. It’s frightening. It's unfamiliar. It looks weird to us. It’s out of our control, and we try to slam on the breaks. The problem is the breaks are not working. We feel totally out of control. For people like me, that out of control doesn’t feel very good. I mean I have everything planned out. There’s reason and thought that goes into everything I do. Maybe you're like me, maybe you're not (and go ahead you can say, “Thank God, I’m not so insane as you").

The truth is each one of us falters in this area. We make plans in our hearts, but it’s God and only God Who establishes them for us. He sets them up, It is Him that confirms them, and it’s Him that determines the outcome. What He establishes is firm, secure, and stands forever.

So, then, my conclusion today is, “God forbid I should get my way in anything that He is not going to establish.”

Whatever you're planning in your heart to do make sure it is in the will of God. God leads His people always. Sometimes it really makes no sense, but you know it’s of God because there’s a hand behind the scenes thats leading and guiding you. You can’t explain it but that drive is deep inside of you; and you know this is the road and you have to follow it.

Today, just listen to that still small voice, deep inside of you and line your plans in your heart with the plans in God’s heart, and you shall be established and in all your plans, you shall succeed.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You are the One Who Establishes my relationship with You. Thank You for choosing me as Your child. To me, You are all that matters, and my desire is to do Your will. Show me the road You want me to take. Lead me and guide me in Your ways. I know that as long as I am following You and obeying You, I will be blessed. Continue to hold me up with Your victorious right hand. Make me like wax softened and easy to shape before You that I might seek only Your approval and seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
