Don't Be Unequally Yoked

"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? Or what fellowship does light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?" -2 Corinthians 6:14-15 (BSB)
Solomon rejected God's word and took wives from all these different nations, and they turned his heart from God.
This is an example of the danger of allowing romantic feelings or lust to take the place of priority in our heart.
Too many people think "She makes me feel so good, and so needed. She's wonderful," or "He is a rebel, and I love his independence. I will change him once we are married." Well, unless those feelings are checked by God and His Word and "brought captive to the obedience of Christ," they can run a person away from God and His blessings, just as they did with Solomon.
"Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,because they will turn your sons away from following Me to serve other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and He will swiftly destroy you," (Deuteronomy 7:3-4 BSB).
Solomon is a most powerful example of this sad truth. He was anointed of God with wisdom beyond anyone else, making decisions, solving problems, in ways that were a marvel to all. God gave him wealth that drew other Kings and Queens to visit him just to see if the stories were true. All had heard of Solomon because of the stunning displays of wealth and wisdom. However, when it came to "wisdom in love," it all went out the window. Solomon fell for women God had forbidden from nations that worshipped other Gods. So when they batted their pretty eyes, pouted, and said, "Sol, baby, can't you worship with me just once," Solomon gave in. And, once he passed that threshold, Solomon gave in again to his Hittite wife who said "You worshipped with Mary Moabite, but won't worship with me? You don't love me," and once she started crying, Solomon gave in. Soon, God was not only second priority but twenty-second priority! Romantic love is beautiful, and in God's plan and purpose, it is fulfilling, full of joy, and wonder. In God's plan romantic love will always submit first to God, and He will make both lives beautiful and blessed.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, You are my First Love and You are the One who loved me first. I commit my ways to You so I do not sin against You. Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Thank You for being my God. Lead me into relationships, Father, that will not be displeasing to You. Help me to bring my thoughts in alignment with Your thoughts and Your Will as outlined in Your Word. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
