It really is true, our steps are lead by God.
I love how Facebook created the, "On this Day Memories." I love it!
I know some people prefer to not be reminded of some of their past experiences, and memories as they might be painful. But for me they serve as great reminders of the faithfulness of God.
As I was traveling from Austria to Germany, the German government shut down its borders. No one was getting in or out. I was scheduled to go to Frankfurt, but I had to go another route in the opposite direction. In doing so, two wonderful things happened.
First, I went to Munich and Cologne both very beautiful. Secondly, I missed my scheduled tour of Frankfurt, and I had to take it next day. My missing the first tour was a wonderful thing. God held back, ordained, and purposed meeting with a total stranger who would help me launch my magazine.
The next day, Ruth Strait and I got on the tour bus, and I headed for the front. As I went to sit on the front seat, the guy a few seats back started talking with me. He asked what I was doing in Frankfurt. I told him I was there on business, and he started to tell me about his work. I told him about the magazine I was launching and he asked what was the name. I told him, and he said, "That's not a good name, you need to change it!" I figured he must be a professional in the field or he was pretty rude. I was right; he is a professional in the field, not just anyone but the founder and editor of a major magazine and was there to cover a car show. He gave me his cell number and told me to call him when I come up with a better name, and he would help me.
I came home, changed the name of my magazine, and called him for his advice. He loved my new name. In a few months, we will launch this magazine, I'll be serving as Editor and Chief.
I have learned through this experience to be sensitive to how God is moving me. You see, we are told in Proverbs 16:9, "The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps." This book written by the wisest, man, King Salomon. I agree with him on this saying and the rest he wrote.
I'm sure no one would argue with me when I share I was upset to not being able to get to Germany on my timetable. After all, I lost a full day in Frankfurt because of being delayed; but had I arrived earlier I wouldn't have met that Editor and Chief of that magazine, and I would have missed the real beauty of Germany's countryside. I wouldn't have seen Munich and Cologne. I loved the drive. It was truly beautiful. The many people we met on our way. Everything I ever heard of the German hospitality was true. So even if it took 10 hours longer to my final destination, t was still a spectacular ride.
I have adopted this new attitude after this Germany experience. I just follow the circumstances and let God take me wherever He pleases. In doing so, I have been lead to the most amazing and unbelievable blessings.
Learn to embrace the situations that seem to take you off the path. Many times there are great purposes, reasons, and we must look to see why God is directing us on another path.
You can make plans but when your life is surrendered to God, don't be surprised how he might lead you. Instead of being disappointed and upset, rejoice and be glad. It just might mean there is a blessing ahead for you or for someone else you need to meet. If you allow yourself to become upset and out of joint you just might miss the greatest opportunities in life, wether is what was meant for you, or for you to bless someone else. Learn to go with the flow, keeping your eyes and ears open to what God might be trying to do. I prefer God's way, don't you? He leads like no other and it always leaves us in awe.
