“While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God.” Hebrews 5:7 When we read the Gospels, we see Jesus withdrew into the wilderness to be with His Heavenly Father. Luke 5:16 says, “But Jesus Himself would often slip away to the wilderness and pray.” He would often slip away to a place of solitude to spend time with His Father in Heaven. Did you catch that? JESUS, Son of God, often withdrew to spend time in prayer. HE MADE TIME FOR PRAYER. He often slipped away to pray. Since Jesus, the Son of God, made time to pray, how much more should we pray being His followers? We are to take His example and take the time to commune with our Father in Heaven. WHAT IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT WORDS TO EXPRESS YOURSELF? You don’t need eloquent words. You don’t need to consult the dictionary when you pray. Your words can be as simple as “Thank you, Lord, for all you have done for me” and “Help me, Father, because I don’t know what to do.” Simple words. God looks at your heart. Just go before Him humbly, recognize who He is, and pour your heart out before Him. Listen to hear His voice. Talk with Him.
Prayer is your line of communication with God. His desire is to fellowship with you. Make time in your day to pray to Him. He hears you, and He wants to talk to you. Never take prayer lightly since it is your line of communication with God.
“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.” -1 Chronicles 16:11 “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” -Jeremiah 29:12 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” -Matthew 26:41 “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” -Ephesians 6:18
Delight yourself in the Lord. Take joy in His presence. Simply pour out your heart before Him. He is your Counselor, and He is the One able to take on whatever you’re struggling with. You will find prayer changes you, builds your faith, and can take down any giant or wall you find confronting you.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for being the One I can run to. Thank You for giving me the privilege to be able to come before You in prayer, the confidence to come boldly before Your throne. Thank You for pouring out Your grace upon me. You, O God, are a Strong Tower in the bad times, and the God who rejoices with me in the good times. You are there in all my comings and goings. Abba, help me to always remember the importance of prayer, and since Jesus had the need to spend time with You, then how much more should I know the need I have to spend time in Your presence to hear Your voice and seek Your face. I invite You to be with me this day wherever I go and to be with me in whatever I say. In Jesus' name, Amen.
