"Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still." (Psalms 4:4) Meditation is mentioned 21 times in the Psalms. Meditation is an action of the soul and can be negative (worry, bitterness) or positive (optimism, worship, communion). The Lord directs us to analysis, carefully consideration, and investigation of His character, ways, and Word. The Holy Spirit, who is within us, will apply our meditation to the plans and purposes God has placed in our heart. He will give us wisdom in our every step of faith, no matter what situation we find ourselves in. True meditation is like a Crime Scene Investigation. They start with a piece of hair and a fingerprint, and unravel the crime scene. One little piece of information leads to another, which, in turn, leads them to still more information. In similar manner, we start with the initial revelation God brings to our spirit. Then using our mind, we examine and analyze all aspects and connections to this specific revelation. As we meditate, He brings a scripture to mind, or He bring to our memory a past experience where God blessed us. Soon, we have new revelation about our life and God’s will for us. Of course, Satan wants to stop our meditation. He knows it draws us closer to God and brings vital truths to our lives. He knows it reveals God and His plans to us. So, as soon as we start to meditate, the evil one will raise up all kinds of activity and thought to keep us away from quiet, clear, reflection with God. This is why it says in Psalms 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God." As we separate our self from the rush and activity of the natural realm, we become more attuned to the Spirit within. May God give us the grace to separate ourselves daily with Him, and meditate deeply on His Word.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, it is so calming to spend time with you. A few moments with You brings relief from the stresses and strains of each day. I thank You today as I meditate upon Your Word You will bring the light and the peace I need today. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
