Jesus - The Son of Man

“and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.” -John 5:27

Many Christians think Jesus did His mighty works because He was the Son of God. And, of course, God is all powerful and does the impossible. However even though God does the impossible, God will also keep His Word. At the creation in Genesis 1:26, God decreed dominion on the earth belonged to man. When man sinned and gave over his authority to Satan, our faithful God could not change the rules in the middle of the game. His throne and rule is founded on His justice; His perfect faithfulness to the laws He established is foundational to His justice. To remain perfectly just, God had to allow a member of the human race confront Satan and restore dominion to man. God plan all along was to send “the lamb of God, slain before the foundation of the world”; He sent His own Son to redeem mankind and reestablish mankind’s authority on the earth. Jesus knew who He was, the Son of Man. While reading the gospels, it is very easy to see He viewed this status –the Son of Man-of supreme importance. Why was that so? If Jesus was only God and didn’t take on humanity, He would not meet God’s own standard for dominion. Jesus had to be made totally human! As a human He had authority on the earth because He was the seed of Adam (Luke 3:38). As a human, He legally and rightfully could exercise God’s authority. You are part of humanity. You are of the sons of Adam; you are the daughters of Eve. Jesus, as a human, defeated Satan for all eternity and gave God’s rightful authority to all who will confess Him as Lord. When you have confessed Jesus as Lord and received the presence of the Holy Spirit you became very dangerous to Satan and his kingdom. By faith you now bring the Kingdom of God into the earth; as Jesus had authority because He was the Son of Man, so do we. PRAYER: How wonderous, how humbling is this great authority You have conferred upon me, oh Lord. Today I will use Your authority in faith to minister life unto all around me. I will love with Your love, and I will undo the works of the evil one. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
