God's Mystery

“that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints...”
-Colossians 1:26
Do you enjoy a good mystery? For a number of years one of the top rated television shows was C.S.I, an acronym for Crime Scene Investigation. People enjoyed it because it unraveled difficult mysteries -A piece of hair, a handwritten note, a spot of spilt oil all led to the truth of what happened at the scene.
In a similar way, God had a marvelous mystery, planned for all eternity He was waiting to reveal to mankind. Throughout the Old Testament He gave us clues to this mystery. Abraham was made right with God not by the merit of his life, but by faith; Moses renounced the wealth of Egypt to endure the reproach of Christ; David repented before God for his adultery and was brought back into relationship with God. All these events pointed towards a something magnificent. What were they all pointing to? What was the mystery God had for the world? Why did He conceal it until the right time? The mystery is no longer concealed. Colossians 1:27 tells us what the mystery was, “Christ in you the hope of glory.” God prepared and planned from the dawn of history to not only create humanity, but to place His very presence within us. The mystery was not that we be better people, or more loving, or great paragons of virtue; the mystery was we would be His sons and daughters. We possess God’s DNA. You and I today are a wonder to angels and a terror to demons all because we are in Christ. May God cause you and I to raise up to our exalted heritage.

PRAYER: LORD of GLORY, thank You for Your gifts of grace, mercy, and salvation. Thank You for being the GOD of love and for revealing Yourself to me. Be with me as I continue along this journey. Help me to always remember that because I have received and accepted You, You have given me the right to be called a child of God. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
