The Gentleness of Christ

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger." -Proverbs 15:1 Many times I've heard people say, the Christian life is just too difficult to live. I agree with that statement. In fact I would say the Christian life is impossible to live. I say that is because trying to be a Christian is not possible for any man or woman; human nature does not permit it. Does a cat have to try to chase mice? Does a duck have to try to fly? Of course not, they do these things because it is in their nature. Cats chase mice, and ducks fly. You and I don't have to try to be a Christian; we are in Christ. Our nature was totally and completely changed when Jesus came into our life. That glorious moment Christ came inside our nature changed to His, and one of the blessings we received is a peaceable spirit. The spirit a God who is within us is also the spirit of peace. When situations appear in life that frustrate us or irritate us-a car cuts us off or a bill we didn’t expect appears in the mail-instead of anger, we find gentleness rising up inside us. A gentleness from heaven which gives us power to control our mouth so we do not speak words that might cut or hurt somebody. Instead of responding out of frustration and stirring up anger, our words turn away the strife and tension. Instead of calling curses upon a person, we instinctively desire to bless them. This is normal everyday reaction when we follow the Spirit of God. Like our Master ministered peace everywhere He walked, so we too are ministers of peace. We don't have to try to be at peace for we are at peace. And, our mouth is filled with gentle words, peaceful words because “out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for being my peace and transforming me into a New Creation in Christ. Father, fill me with Your Spirit that I might live according to all Your instructions and Your commands. Make me Your humble servant to live as Christ did when He walked this earth. Fill my mouth with the words You would have me to speak. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
