"So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD through Samuel." (I Chronicles 11:3)
Isaiah 55:11 contains a wonderful promise which states, "So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." When God speaks something into existence, it must happen. It doesn’t necessarily happen in that moment in time, but it must happen. This is a wonderful comfort to us. When we are in struggles because of attacks by the evil one, when it seems like there is no earthly way, or even heavenly way out, the promises of God in His Word will work.
David, as a young shepherd boy, was anointed King over Israel. Still during his teen years he had a great victory over Goliath, which brought him honor and reputation. But a spirit of jealousy in King Saul moved him to try to kill David. David fled for his life, living off the land. He was in prison by the Philistines, he faced a mutiny from his own men, he was constantly running from King Saul, yet God's Word to David was he would be King. I imagine a number times along the way David was wondering "when", "how"?
Still David kept faith in the Word God had given him, and when Saul was killed in battle the elders of Israel came to David, and acknowledged God has established him as King "according to the Word of the Lord." It took some time, there were some trials along the way, but God’s word was true.
Do you have some struggles? Are there obstacles that seem impossible in your life? God is not a respecter of persons, what He did for David He will do for you. As His promised word to David came into being, so shall His promised words to us be fulfilled. Remember it is by "faith and patience" we inherit the promise.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, Thank You for giving me Your Holy Word. Thank You that Your Word does not come back void. Father, help me to always keep in mind Your Word can be trusted and You are the Faithful One whose words are true, and let me constantly remember that when Your Words go forth from Your mouth, those words accomplish what You desire and is successful for the purposes in which You sent it. Abba, may I always remember You are the One who has made the crooked paths straight and that You are the One who lights my path that I might see clearly. You, O God, specialize in the Impossible, and I will trust You to carry me through. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
